Leadership

In addition to my experience as a department manager at the Verona Public Library, I have had many opportunities to demonstrate leadership while working for MPL. Since starting at Center Street, there has been quite a bit of turnover. When I first started in August of 2022, the branch manager was working at two branches and, as a result, wasn't in the branch everyday. Very quickly I found myself, a Librarian II, stepping up to fill the role of Librarian-in-Charge. This earned me a Favorable Occurrence Commendation from Brett Rohlwing.

By the end of the year in 2022, both of the YA and Children's Librarian positions were vacated, and I found myself in a position to serve as a mentor David (a temporary librarian) hired on until the vacancies could be filled permanently. When Mary came aboard as the new manager, I was able to help introduce her to how Center Street operates and work with her to identify areas for improvement and change. In spring and summer of 2023, Liz (new Children's Librarian) and Tara (new YA Librarian) respectively joined the Center Street staff. I was able to help train them on policies and procedures and reinforce what they learned during their training time downtown/at other branches.

Other examples of my taking a leadership role include acting as LIC while providing emergency help at branches other than my own (@23 on 8/31/2023). I also volunteered to be the branch solicitor for the 2023 Combined Giving campaign and will be serving a three year term to help coordinate the campaign for the library, in addition to volunteering for the Peer Support Team, which will commence training in December.
